It was third grade, just days after learning to ride a bike without training wheels, when Stan H. Eason knew that he’d be a writer. Always fond of writing essays and the magic created by great writers, Eason knew this would be his calling, and he pursued it throughout.
A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Eason became a fulltime sports writer for the Hudson Dispatch, a daily newspaper in Union City in 1986. For five years he covered the local sports scene as well as college and professional sports, garnering him not only a byline but also several honors in the annual metropolitan press organization contests.
Unlike most sportswriters, Eason shifted gears in his career in 1991 by becoming a hard news reporter with The Jersey Journal, which stands as the only daily newspaper in Hudson County today. Over the course of the next 10 years Eason would make a name for himself covering the crime beat and through several investigative exposes.
He would go on to earn several first-place literary honors for “impact” and “breaking” news coverage from organizations such as New Jersey Press Association, North Jersey Press Association, Garden State Press Association and the Garden State Association of Black Journalists.
In 2001 Eason left the print medium for a new challenge, taking the reigns as Director of Communications for the City of Jersey City. There his duties include the development and management of JC1TV, where local events are featured as well as the broadcasting of JC1TV original mini-films and shows. Eason’s other responsibilities include research, creative development of original shows and mini-movies for JC1TV, show hosting, speech writing for the Mayor and spokesman for the Jersey City Police Department and municipality overall.
